A message to our partners and clients regarding the Covid-19 pandemic

The safety and wellbeing of our people and partners is Cawthron Institute’s highest priority, and we want to let you know what we are doing in response to New Zealand’s Covid-19 alert level.

We have put in place a number of measures to ensure we are able to look after our people, partners and clients during the government’s alert Level 4 period, as well as continue to deliver activities as a recognised laboratory.

Continuing to operate our laboratories

Our testing services are considered essential, so we will continue to carry out critical laboratory work during the lockdown period. We recognise that ensuring the integrity of drinking waters and food products to keep New Zealand healthy during this time is paramount, and will enable our primary industries and public water safety clients to continue to operate.

We will continue to accept samples for essential services. However, please be aware that we may be unable to send samples for sub-contracting, or prioritise urgent requests for non-essential services. Please get in touch before sending your sample to us by emailing or calling us on 03 548 2319 so we can advise you appropriately.

We want to do all we can to support our customers whilst ensuring our people remain safe and well. We have implemented a roster and on-call approach to minimise numbers of people onsite at any one time, as well as a rigorous distancing and hygiene routine. Our laboratories are now closed to everyone except key people dedicated to delivering and maintaining our services.

Caring for our people and each other

The majority of Cawthron staff are not required to be at the workplace and we are well-equipped to work from home. Many of our research programmes will continue as normal and we have the ability to meet virtually and use collaborative online tools to engage with our partner and clients.

We are also working with a number of other science and health research organisations across the country to see what assistance we can provide.

Keeping you up to date

We are committed to keeping you up to date with any changes that we need to make during this time. If you have any questions about our laboratory services, please don’t hesitate to get in touch by emailing or calling us on 03 548 2319 – please rest assured that even though our reception will not be staffed, your calls will be answered.

We wish you all a safe and healthy few weeks and months. Please keep in touch if there is anything we can assist you with.
