Oceans Mesh at 2018 Light Nelson Festival
This year as part of the popular ‘Light Nelson’ Festival, Cawthron social scientist Charlotte Šunde collaborated with local artist Vicki Smith and Alison Greenaway, a senior social science researcher at Landcare Research, to create Oceans Mesh. This installation combined live data and visual effects that explored narratives of the sea, its inhabitants and interpretations. Oceans Mesh is part of, and funded by, Sustainable Seas National Science Challenge. One of the aims of the project was to prompt public conversations around the sorts of changes required to bring an ecosystem-based management (EBM) approach to our interactions with our marine and coastal ecosystems.
