An update on supporting essential New Zealand businesses
We’d like to say a huge thanks to all our customers for your understanding as we transitioned to Alert Level 4. Like many of you, we have moved quickly to ensure we are operating within a robust environment to manage Covid-19 health and safety requirements, including strict rostering and auditing practices. We are processing high volumes of samples for essential businesses recognised by MPI, and our focus continues to be delivering quality testing to support New Zealand’s food supply chain, water safety and export capability.
Turnaround times for sample testing
We are working hard to process the many samples being sent through and we are increasing capacity as more businesses are recognised as essential. Our turnaround times for our testing services currently available are as follows:
Microbiology testing: Our microbiology laboratory is delivering results to normal time frames for water public safety and food chain safety testing.
Food chemistry /GMP testing: These laboratories are working through a backlog of testing and so standard turnaround times are delayed.
Natural Toxins (microalgae/biotoxin) testing: These laboratories are currently delivering to normal timeframes for public water safety testing.
How you can help
To help us process your samples and results efficiently, there are a few small ways you can assist us:
Complete a sample submission form: Please send a submission form with your sample which is typed and fully completed. If handwritten, please ensure that it is written legibly in clear capital letters.
Label samples clearly: Similarly, please label your sample in clear capital letters.
Avoid following up turnaround times: Please avoid calling to request turnaround times or request urgent testing, as such requests currently cannot be met.
Easter Hours/ANZAC Day
This is a reminder that Friday 10 April and Monday 13 April are statutory holidays, so couriers will not be delivering and Cawthron’s laboratories will be closed on these days. We will be operating on Saturday 11 April. Please do not send perishable items to us on Thursday 9 April as that freight will be delivered on Tuesday 14 April. If there is a Saturday delivery ticket on the item, it will be delivered to us on Saturday 11 April and be processed.
ANZAC day is on Saturday 25 April with the statutory holiday observed on Monday 27 April. Couriers will not deliver on Monday 27 April and Cawthron’s laboratories will be closed. Please do not send perishable items to us on Friday 24 April as that freight will be delivered on Tuesday 28 April. If there is a Saturday delivery ticket on the item, it will be delivered to us on Saturday 25 April after 1pm.
NB: Local regional councils can continue to deliver routine water samples on statutory holidays between 9am and 2pm – please ring the after-hours sample reception buzzer and Microbiology will pick up your samples.
We will endeavour to keep you updated with our testing services and turnaround time frames during this time.
He wake eke noa – we’re all in this together. Take care everyone.
