Our work continues in the Pacific

Cawthron’s Analytical Science Group continues to assist our pacific neighbours with their laboratory systems.

Joy Oakly, Cawthron’s Quality Consultant, has recently returned from working with the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) where she has played a very important role in helping their laboratory to meet a significant milestone. Since 2010 the Cawthron Analytical Sciences team has been working with the WAF laboratory to help them be able to apply for IANZ ISO 17025 accreditation. This piece of work has been a significant undertaking as WAF have funded it themselves, unlike many other Pacific laboratories who get overseas funding.

Cawthron has previously hosted several of the staff here for training, and has held training sessions over in Suva on four occasions. Joy said that she was delighted to see the laboratory was now able to be audited.

“The initial IANZ assessment which took place in January went very well, and WAF’s audit responses to the corrective actions are being sent to IANZ this week.  I was fortunate that IANZ allowed me to be there for the audit on the condition that I wasn’t allowed to talk!”

Joy said she was very excited for the WAF laboratory team.  “This is just the first step as they will now need to add chemistry tests to their scope. While it has been a long journey it is fulfilling to be able to share our knowledge and expertise and help others to improve their systems”.
