Tim Dodgshun

Technical Adviser – Equipment Maintenance

Qualifications

  • Cert (Animal Technology). New Zealand Veterinary Association

Role at Cawthron

Tim was originally trained in insect pathology and biological control. He held a number of technical posts in these areas prior to joining Cawthron. These included:

  • research on native and introduced freshwater fishes
  • salmon farming
  • study of the relationship between trout and galaxiid fish in small streams
  • aspects of the ecology of native and introduced animals, including lizards, wasps and bats.

Tim currently prepares and maintains equipment required by the scientists in the Marine and Freshwater group. He is also responsible for the maintenance of the wet laboratory (including any specimens being held in this environment for research purposes) and the controlled climate cabinets.

Technical skills, experience and interests

  • Marine biosecurity and ballast water research, including marine liaison and the development of ballast water sampling methods
  • Repair and maintenance of marine and freshwater aquarium systems 
  • Care of animals held in aquariums
  • Freshwater ecology 
  • General repair and maintenance of equipment
