2017 Cawthron Scitec Expo.

The Cawthron Scitec Expo is an annual celebration of science for primary and secondary school students in the Nelson Tasman region.

This year the Expo is bigger than ever, with over 350 entries, two brand new sections and over 80 prizes to be won.

This fantastic community event is open to the public and we encourage you to come along and be amazed by the talent and hard work of our budding scientists and technologists.

Public viewing days

Tuesday 26th September, 9am-6pm*
Wednesday 27th September, 3-6pm
Thursday 28th September, 3-6pm

* Science Communicators' presentations, 4-6pm

2017 has brought some exciting changes to the traditional format of the Expo.

Two new sections are making their official debut: ‘Art in Science’ and ‘Research’. Both have proven very popular attracting numerous entries.

For the first time, with the support of Wakatū Incorporation, the Expo welcomes projects in Te Reo Māori, allowing students to present their work in their preferred learning language.

The Expo continues to encourage science communication through a dedicated award, sponsored by the Nelson Science Society. Students wishing to be considered for the award will be giving a short presentation on their project.

This event brings together scientists, teachers, local and national businesses to support our region's young enquiring minds.

Thanks to our generous sponsors, there are over 80 prizes worth a total of $8,000 to be won.
